Sonic. Breathe.

[Two simple words. A failsafe, huh? Shadow thinks for a moment. There could be a couple of places he can think to store the emerald. One would be their home. After all, himself, Sonic, and this other Sonic are all there. Not like someone could easily get through all three.

Then again, that might be predictable. Then there is the other option.]

Maybe it's time you met Nine. He has something like the emerald, the Paradox Prism. He has failsafes for it. He can help make one for the emerald.

I trust him.

[Shadow says without any hesitation. He does now. After what they've been through here in Ellipsa. He does trust Nine.]

His only interest in such power is what he can use it for to help Ellipsa. If we say it is best locked away, he will listen.

It is. At best, used sparingly. Shadow and I handled it well enough, but Robotnik seemed real out of it for parts of the fight. I dunno if that was his brand of crazy reacting to the power or if that was the effect OF the power, but with how many Echidnas and Owls died over it, it....it does things to people.

I can make up something for super mode if it's the only option. Even for people from your guys' world, sparking is a me thing, not a Sonic thing. Looooot of room to make stuff up then.

Hm. Then let's go see Nine. If we need to use the Emerald, all we need to tell anyone is it is ours to use as we see fit. And leave it at that.

[If it can achieve Super Form, it must be the Master Emerald. Though, it is smaller than the one from his world. Interesting.]

Follow me. [Shadow will move to the door and unlock it. Time to go consult their resident genius fox.]

That also works. Just if ROBOTNIK is around, the less he knows about it, the better. [He is not near as chill about Robotnik.]

[He nods and gets up to follow.]

So long as we do not flaunt we have the emerald, the Doctor should not become aware.

[He opens the door and off they run. It isn't far until they are in front of a rather nice looking house and a sliding metal door near the back. He knocks twice and stands back a step.]

Nine. We need to speak with you. It's important.

[He nods.] A good idea anyway.

[He will follow along. He's definitely doing some circles a bit, zipping back and forth on either side of Shadow.]

[It only takes a minute for the door to slide open, and a moment more for Nine to walk into view holding a cup of tea.]

Are you starting a collection now, Shadow?

[There's just enough levity in his tone to make it clear that he's teasing, but most of his attention does shift to the new Sonic.]

It must be important to not call first.

Sonic brought something from his world he is anxious to discuss with you. Can we come inside?

[He's sure this Fox looks just like Tails except bigger and the metal tails!!!!]

Hi Nine, I'm Sonic Wachowski. Good to meet you, people keep talking about you, and this Amy person. I've only been here a short while. Did you make the tails? They look really cool. Also should I be wearing clothes? You're wearing them and Shadow does, but other me didn't, so now I don't know what to think.

Anyway, I was hoping I could ask you a few questions first.

[He looks to Shadow.]

I should know if I trust him first.

[He looks to Nine.] Not that I think you're UNTRUSTWORTHY, but this is important and there are tiers, you know?

Shadow, you know that if I don't want you in my house I won't open the door.

[Nine does motion them inside and...this Sonic somehow talks so much more than the other two and Nine can only stare. There are other differences, including the overall softer look of this Sonic.]

I'm probably not the best person to ask about trusting people. I really don't trust anyone without a lot of work. But it's probably generally a bad idea to ask a person you have sensitive information for if you can trust them on a first meeting.

And yes, I built them myself. You'll probably meet Amy sooner than later. It's up to you if you want to wear clothes, what the rest of us and especially other Sonic's do doesn't dictate things like that.

[He places a hand on his hip. At least this one has some caution?]

[Shadow nods and walks in with Nine and Sonic. He looks at Sonic as he speaks and then back at Nine. He gives him a sympathetic look. Yes, it is a lot to take in. And a lot of talking. He knows.]

I trust you. [Shadow says simply to Nine.] Sonic brought an object with him. I will let him explain. But it is a lot like this.

[He pulls his green emerald out of his quills and shows it to Sonic. See. He has one too. Not as big as the Master Emerald and larger than the Chaos Emeralds Sonic is used to.]

[Sonic steps inside, looking around curiously, moving around the room.]

Oh, that's fine. And I'm not asking if I can trust you, everyone would say yes, unless they have really, really bad self esteem, and then they might say no, but usually those sort are more trustworthy because they hate that they've hurt someone so they're less likely to do it.

[And Sonic isn't relying on just being told. Its about the vibes. Sonic knows he has trust issues, but he's also found once someone passes his vibe check, he's not wrong. He was right to trust Knuckles, and he was right to trust Shadow even if they had been trying to kill him earlier, and he had been right to not trust Robotnik, he just hadn't had much choice at the time.]

[So vibe check.]

[He looks over at Shadow, tilting his head.] Huh. Okay, really gotta see about all these size differences.

Anyway, Shadow said you're really focused on keeping Ellipsa safe?

[Nine's eyes shift to Shadow. He's still really not used to being told outright that he's trusted. But he won't deny that a measure of trust has grown between them that wasn't there at the start.]

Dependent but fair, though putting out there that you need to check isn't that different from asking if you have an important secret. And it draws interest you may decide you didn't want. That's all I'm warning you about.

[He holds out his hand for Shadow's Chaos Emerald, he barely considers the question.]

Ellipsa is my home, so yes. I'm focused on keeping it safe.

[Shadow hands over the emerald and nods to them both.]

Ellipsa is our home now. Both of us will fight to keep it safe. [Their world is gone. No going back for Nine or himself. In the end, they will either stay here in Ellipsa or head to some other worlds they're invited to stay in. For now though, Ellipsa is the focus. Shadow's tone is serious and dedicated.]

I have a lot of important secrets. What matters is people can't do anything with it even if they do find out. I should have told Shadow to let me do a vibe check first. My mistake. I don't usually meet a lot of people I need to trust on someone else's word. At least a lot of trust versus 'they're not going to stab me' level of trust. I trust this Shadow, but also my Shadow had questionable judgement of character, and I dunno how well this one stacks up on that. He seems better at people than my Shadow, so point in his favor, but eeeeeeeeh, I have to be careful with this.

[Record scratch right there.]

[Taking in previous things Shadow has said.]

Some peple can do a lot with a little. If someone else says more than you wanted at first, it safer to keep the need for a "vibe check" to yourself.

[This Sonic seems pretty sharp though. Despite talking to much.

Nine's shoulders droop a little.]

Our universe is gone, yes. It wasn't really ever home for me, but Shadow lost his twice. The second time right after getting it back.

[He turns and heads for the kitchen, motioning for them to follow.]

[Shadow doesn't fully understand what a vibe check even is. Which is why he's just staying quite. Let these two talk it out, whatever it is. Shadow does nod when Sonic clearly connects the dots.]

Yes. Our entire universe is gone, as Nine said. This is our home now. [He follows Nine toward the way to the kitchen.

Preparing afternoon tea is a very tall, 6 foot 6 inches wolf butler. Who smiles at Nine and the guests before he will pour them tea and motion toward the cups.]

For you all. [The butler will say before he excuses himself, walking out of the kitchen to give them room to speak.]

[Still, there is a focus on Nine.] Even if it wasn't much....even losing that little you have is a lot. [His cave hadn't been much of a home, but it had been the most he had gotten for a long time and it had still hurt.]

[Then he looks at Shadow.] I hope you guys can keep this one. It takes a while to feel like home, but...but it can get better.

[Following! To the kitchen! Sorting through feelings. Taking a few breaths. Big emotions are a lot. Trying to decide what he wants to say and what he shouldn't. Processing information.]

[Oh look, he's actually silent for like a minute.]

[He pauses at the wolf.]

....so owls and wolves are the lucky ones.

It's not that big of a deal. I hadn't gained anything that wasn't already lost.

Sonic has a grasp on that pain it seems...though the fact that he stops talking to take in their situation is also weird.

Besides, he lost it before it was gone so there wasn't much use dwelling too much.]

Shadow, there's coffee if you're hungry. Sonic, there are juice boxes if you don't like tea.

[He ignores the comment referring to Lycaon because: lucky how?]

[Shadow goes to get a small bowl and a spoon. Then he pours coffee beans into the bowl and starts just eating the beans. He's so normal.]

Continue your vibe check. Whatever that is. [Crunch. Crunch. Crunch.]

[Sonic is very concerned if that's really all it is, but he also knows that he wouldn't want to be harped on it. Its why he doesn't usually TALK about it, not unless he needs to for whatever reason.]

[Usually bonding, sometimes when its too big, though the latter is Rare.]

[He is staring at Shadow in absolute horror. GOOD SIR WHAT ARE YOU DOING?]

[Listen, no amount of taking stock of all that can counter Shadow just straight up eating coffee beans.]
